Autumn: the season starts to move
As the heat breaks in October and November, the outdoor calendar wakes up. This is when cultural festivals, outdoor markets and open-air entertainment typically return after the summer quiet, and it is also when desert and outdoor events across the city start booking up again after a slower summer. If you are planning an outdoor wedding, corporate offsite or desert evening, this is the point in the year demand starts climbing.
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (Formula 1)
The single biggest fixture on the calendar. Typically held in late November or early December at Yas Marina Circuit, it is a multi-day event that brings a wave of visitors, a packed entertainment lineup around the track, and a genuinely different energy to the whole city for the week. Hotel rates across Abu Dhabi rise sharply around race weekend, and restaurant and venue bookings should be made well in advance if your plans overlap with it at all. In 2026 the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs from 3 to 6 December.
UAE National Day
Held annually on 2 December, marking the anniversary of the UAE's formation in 1971. In 2026 it is a Wednesday, the 55th anniversary, with the public holiday on 2 and 3 December. Expect flag displays, fireworks over the Corniche and other landmarks, parades, and a citywide mood that leans celebratory rather than quiet. It typically falls close to the F1 weekend, so late November into early December is the single busiest stretch of the Abu Dhabi calendar, worth knowing if you are trying to book a venue, a hotel, or an event around it.
Winter cultural season
December through February is when Abu Dhabi's cultural institutions are at their busiest and best. Expect major exhibitions at Louvre Abu Dhabi, performances and festivals tied to the cooler months, and outdoor markets and pop-ups that would be unbearable in July but work well once the evenings cool down. This is also, not coincidentally, peak season for weddings and outdoor events generally, so both venues and desert camps tend to book out further ahead in these months than at any other point in the year.
Liwa Festival
The 2026-27 festival is announced for 11 December to 2 January out in the Liwa oasis, the western edge of the emirate near the Empty Quarter. It draws crowds for camel racing, a date festival, and a genuinely different side of Emirati culture than the coastal city shows. If you are planning a Liwa trip specifically, check whether it overlaps with the festival, that is either the reason to go or the reason to avoid it, depending on whether you want the crowds.
Ramadan and Eid
Dates shift year to year following the lunar calendar. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, with Eid Al Fitr around 9 to 11 March, subject to the moon sighting. Ramadan changes the daytime rhythm of the whole city, and iftar and suhoor events become a significant part of the calendar, in restaurants, hotels and increasingly at desert camps too. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha both bring public holidays and a spike in family gatherings and short breaks.
Spring festivals and outdoor season
March and April are typically the last comfortable outdoor months before summer heat sets in, and the calendar reflects that, food festivals, outdoor concerts and cultural programming tend to cluster here before the season winds down. It is also a good window for events and desert evenings at slightly better value than peak winter, without the discomfort summer brings.
Summer
June through September is the quiet season for outdoor and desert events, the heat makes daytime outdoor plans impractical and pushes everything toward evenings, indoor venues and cooled spaces. It is also when hotel and venue pricing tends to be at its most flexible, worth knowing if your plans are not tied to a specific fixture.
Booking desert events around the calendar
The practical takeaway for anyone planning a desert wedding, corporate dinner or private evening: November through February is peak season across the board, driven by the cooler weather as much as by F1 and National Day specifically, so book your date as early as you can if it falls in that window. October and March into April are strong shoulder months, comfortable weather with noticeably more availability. If your date is flexible, avoiding the two or three weeks around the Grand Prix and National Day makes both hotel arrangements and venue booking considerably easier for you and your guests.
